MODULE:
Mitigating Side Effects During Titration
Unlocking the Essentials: Navigating the Basics of Medical Cannabis
$59.00
This module offers a comprehensive guide to effectively managing the titration of medicinal cannabis to treat various ailments while minimising side effects.
Module Description
This module discusses the gradual process of introducing medicinal cannabis through titration—a method of administering medication at low doses and slowly increasing them to reach therapeutic levels without overwhelming the endocannabinoid system. The goal is to achieve symptom relief with minimal side effects by allowing the body to build tolerance. Side effects like drowsiness, nausea, and nervousness are often associated with THC and can be managed by adjusting dosages, extending the titration period, or increasing CBD intake. It’s emphasised that CBD plays a critical role in counteracting the psychoactive properties of THC, thereby ensuring patients don't experience euphoria, a common side effect. Patients are advised to maintain their conventional medication during titration until a stable dose of cannabis is found. In cases where patients do not respond to treatment, they may need to try different strains of cannabis as individual responses vary widely. The importance of patient-practitioner communication is highlighted to personalise treatment and manage any adverse effects.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Understanding what titration is and why it is necessary for medicinal cannabis introduction.
- Recognising the importance of maintaining consistent dosages and the role of the endocannabinoid system in medication absorption.
- Identifying common side effects (drowsiness, nausea, loose stools, etc.) and strategies to mitigate them.
- Acknowledging the significance of CBD in preventing the psychoactive effects of THC.
- Knowing the correct dosing protocol to prevent side effects when taking THC and CBD.
- Recognising that one size does not fit all in medication efficacy and the necessity for potential strain changes.
- Understanding the process of transitioning off conventional medications when introducing cannabinoids.
- Realising the time frame for seeing therapeutic effects and what to do if symptom relief is not achieved.
